So just a few days after the terrible massacre of 26 people in an American school, including 20 children aged 6 and 7 the headteacher of a Bradford primary School, Rashidah Butt used a pretend gun in a school play. All this in front of an audience of a very similar age to the US children who died. Sure it was a fake gun, but this woman holds a position that should make the welfare of children paramount. In my opinion this is at best a horrendous error of judgement for which she should apologise profusely. At worst she is an insensitive, uncaring idiot who should never work in education again. Perhaps she could become a lobbyist for the NRA. I’d love to know what you think of this incident. Click here to read the story in the Bradford Telegraph and Argus.

This is a silly non-story.
The teacher was pretending to be James Bond (after filling in for an ill colleague) and it was clearly a spoof, even to a young child. Do we stop violence in cartoons because some people in a foreign country died? Do we lambast shops for selling fake gins whose target audience is small children? If the killer had used an ace and the school put on Red Riding Hood, woukd we have had the same ‘outrage’? No, because that would be silly – just like this story.

Education does not need insensitive morons who wave ‘guns’ at young children just days after a tragedy. This headteacher should have thought of the consequences of her actions and the harm they could cause.
