The Mayhem Christmas Message 2021 December 25, 2021

I hope you are all doing well given what Covid has done and is still doing to us. I really hope that we will start to see the end of living on Plague Island in 2022. I would like to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who has read, liked, or followed With Just A Hint Of Mayhem during 2021 and a big shout out to all of you who have been with us longer than that. I am especially grateful for the reviews that Paul and Tom have added to the site. Then of course the bands and artists that gave us some awesome Christmas messages this year. Personally, I have loved getting back to live gigs after so long, hopefully, this will only get better next year. We have been a little behind on reviews in 2021, we plan to do better next year. It just remains for me to say enjoy the rest of your Christmas and have a fabulous new year. You may have seen the Queen’s Christmas message, well this is mine!

A Christmas Message From Skylights December 19, 2021

Today’s Christmas message is from ace York band Skylights and presented by guitarist supreme Turnbull. The band has had a phenomenal year by so many standards, which is even more amazing given the Covid restrictions that have existed for much of that time. There was a delicious stripped-back version of “Darkness Falls” back in April and sell-out shows which stretched to Scotland and Ireland and of course plenty in Yorkshire. They were due to close the year with two more sellout shows billed as “homecoming” gigs in York at the Acomb Working Men’s Club. Sadly Covid has meant those two shows have been postponed until April. I will be there! Then of course there will, hopefully, be the eagerly awaited album on the shelves in 2022. If you haven’t got into Skylights yet then where have you been? Would you like more Christmas messages after those particularly fun and funky ones we got last year? You would? Well ok, let’s kick things off with a fab little piece from the fabulous and epic Hazy Janes!

Check out their new single below, these lads come across like a two-man Led Zeppelin with interstellar rocket engines! Drummer Bron and guitarist and singer Ellis formed the Hazy Janes during lockdown and are clear proof that some good things did happen during the darkest of Covid days! The world needs bands like this.

The 12 Days Of Christmas 2021 – Songs Of Hope – Day 3

If you have read the posts for day 1 and day 2 you will know that this years 12 Days of Christmas showcases a collection of songs that communicate hope. This kicked off with the Bill Withers classic, “Lean On Me” and yesterday followed with “Here Comes The Sun” by the Beatles. We have all been through some very dark times in the past couple of years, some far more than others. But I hope and believe that there is a light at the end of all this. That is why I have chosen todays song. It is by a man who is probably my favourite vocalist of all time, Johnny Nash. The song is “I Can See Clearly Now”. Once again let me say, stay strong people and if you are feeling particularly low talk to someone. I am happy to be here for you if you need me!

Wow, Christmas Eve already, the bearded weirdo arrives on his sleigh tonight led by living venison with an inflamed nose! I wanted to end the 12 Days Of, Mostly, Punky Christmas, with a song that I love by a band that back in the day were the best by far! The Ramones with “Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight)”, the video is rather good too 🙂

Happy Christmas to each and every one of you, thank you for sticking with this blog and let’s hope 2021 is so much better, it couldn’t be worse could it?

A Christmas Message From PERCY December 22, 2020

I wasn’t sure whether this Christmas message idea would work or not, but I think it has. This is the eighth one and it is now the turn of West Yorkshire Superheroes, PERCY! Earlier this year the band released the rather fabulous ‘Seaside Donkeys’ album and the vinyl release is something special. You can download it from their BandCamp site and from the same place you can still avail yourself of one of the remaining vinyl albums too. Just click here, you won’t regret it! Well worth the investment, this is a classic album. Given that we haven’t seen the last of Brexshit, the vile gift that keeps on giving, PERCY and their songs will be very relevant for many, many years yet!
