On August 28th, 1968, Tammy Wynette recorded “Stand By Your Man” at Epic Studios. It took just 15 minutes to finish and became Wynette’s signature song. It was co-written with producer Billy Sherrill and was the title track of Tammy’s 1969 album. It has been a staple of films for many years featuring in ‘and would be featured over the decades in films like ‘Five Easy Pieces’, ‘Four Weddings And A Funeral’, ‘The Crying Game’, and ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ to name just a few. Interestingly I think Tammy was on her fourth husband when she wrote the song.
On 28th August 1972, the artist formerly known as Vincent Furnier, Alice Cooper was Number One on the UK singles chart with “School’s Out”. He has said he was inspired to write the song when answering the question, “What’s the greatest three minutes of your life?”. His answer was “There’s two times during the year. One is Christmas morning, the next one is the last three minutes of the last day of school.“
