Earlier this evening I was watching with fascination and respect the rescue of the 33 trapped Chilean miners. I have watched many amazing live TV events in my lifetime, with the 1969 moon landing being the most amazing (and to the conspiracy theorists, it happened OK, get over it! How do I know? Obviously I know it’s true cos I saw it on the TV! Anyway to celebrate this amazing rescue and excellent good news let’s take a look and listen to some freedom songs.
As I type this 26 of the 33 trapped miners are now free, let’s hope that the rest are on the surface very soon.
The songs are “I’m Free” by the Soup Dragons. Any band named after a character in the Clangers is more than cool with me. next up is a song with the same title by the Who and taken from the truly stupendous Tommy album, purportedly the world’s first rock opera, only don’t mention that to the Pretty Things whose ‘S.F. Sorrow’ was released a little earlier. The final song is “Freedom” from Wham, that one celebrates George Michael‘s recent release from prison.
I was just listening to my classic-alt mix at work today and I’ve totally got “I’m Free” included. Once of my favorites, ever! =) I also like “Freedom,” though not for a classic-alt mix.
Hope all is well – it’s been a long time.

Hello, yes it has been a long time, but spookily I thought of you the other day. The BBC has a new Dr Who spin off series call the Sarah Jane adventures. It has been made for CBBC the BBC’s children’s channel. It may have already started. Check the link out http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/sja/
I’ve always loved the Soup Dragons song and with George Michael being released from prison recently Wham’s “Freedom” was an obvious choice. I probably should have added Queen’s “I Want To Break Free” as well, I love that video!
Cheers

Okay, that’s weird, isn’t it. I love TSJA, though I prefer her as a companion and not the ringleader. She was much more amusing when she was the one talking back and being obstinate. Now she’s on the other side of the fence and hotter than hell, but not as funny.
I am not familiar with much of Queen’s music at all, but would love to see that “I Want to Break Free” video!
Are you still on Twitter? How is your son’s band doing?

The big news is that they are going to reveal in TSJA that the Doctor is able to regenerate more than 12 times! I do agree that SJ is pretty hot though 🙂
As for ‘that’ video here’s the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVYgRPfC9nQ&feature=fvst
I am still on Twiitter, although I don’t use it much. All my blog posts are automatically notified to Twitter and Facebook though.
Luke’s band are likely to be on hiatus for a while as they’re all off to college and such. Luke is doing a two year Audio Engineering degree in Oxford.
Great to hear from you again, how are you doing?

WE DID ACTUALLY EAT FOUR GUYS, ADMIT CHILEAN MINERS
THE first of the trapped Chilean miners brought to the surface have admitted that four of their colleagues were delicious.
Rescued miner Mario Sepulveda was in charge of garlic and sauces
The jubilant miners hugged their families and shouted for joy before quietly informing the rescuers they would only need to do 29 trips.
Florencio Avalos, trapped for 64 days, said: “We were just going to keep quiet about it and hope no-one noticed. ‘Oh no, there was only 29 of us, why would you think there was 33?’. But we kind of realised you had probably been through the list a couple of times.
“Then we thought about saying they were eaten by a dragon, but then there would be this whole big dragon finding expedition and when it came back empty handed eventually someone would start asking lots of awkward questions. Particularly as we’ve all gained a bit of weight.
“So eventually we thought, best just to come clean straight away so everyone can move on with their lives and we need never speak of it again.”
Bolivian Carlos Mamani added: “All we had was these biscuits. After the first 12 hours I was like, ‘these are just rubbish’ and so I hit Manuel over the head with a big rock and made some sausages.
“It’s okay, he was a terrible racist.”
Mamani said the other three dishes were all racist child molesters who stole food and water and had eventually begged to be made into stew, burgers and a really lovely slow-roasted shift supervisor.
“The sense of unity and togetherness down there was amazing. No-one said ‘this is too spicy for me’ or ‘I don’t like chins’, we all just eat who was put in front of us.”
He added: “I would like Tobey Maguire to play me in the film please.”
