Supremely talented Dutch artist Patty Lou has collaborated with Django Black on a rather wonderful four-to-the-floor dance style take on Yung Bleu and Drake’s “You’re Mines Still”. The melodies could soundtrack the best dream that you ever had and Patty’s voice takes you on an ethereal journey to musical heaven via some clubby house sounds that also lean elegantly to the perfect pop song. Patty has a vibe of Rihanna and Craig David in this spectacular and infectious piece of 21st Century R&B

Despite departing this mortal coil nearly two years ago David Bowie is still breaking records. He recently reached his billionth stream on Spotify. That is not the highest by any artist, I know that Drake has had more than ten billion streams of his songs. Ed Sheerhan’s “Shape Of You” has had more than a billion streams in its own right. But nonetheless a billion streams is a great achievement in my opinion. The top ten Bowie songs streamed on Spotify completely bypass anything released after 1983. The sixties has one entry, the eighties has two and the seventies a mighty seven.

In terms of albums represented by these ten songs, in reverse order it is;

Space Oddity (a.k.a. David Bowie) 1 track, Diamond Dogs (1 track), Heroes (1 track), Let’s Dance (2 tracks), Hunky Dory (2 tracks) and Ziggy Stardust (3 tracks)

The magnificent, late, great Mick Ronson was also a part of the original studio recordings of five of these tracks too.

  1. Heroes
  2. Let’s Dance (One of only two on this list to reach number one in the UK)
  3. Space Oddity (the second of two on this list to reach number one in the UK. But only after it was reissued in 1975)
  4. Life On Mars
  5. Starman
  6. Rebel Rebel
  7. Moonage Daydream (Never released as a single in the UK)
  8. Changes
  9. Ziggy Stardust
  10. Modern Love

“See how I’ll leave with every piece of you don’t underestimate the things that I will do” December 31, 2011

Spotify recently announced it’s top ten most played songs for 2011, but wait a minute it’s not over for a few more hours! Anyway I suspect that the Spotify plays on the last day of the year are unlikely to have a significant impact on the top tunes. Adele is top with “Rolling In The Deep“.

It’s an incredibly female dominated list too (on that note it also includes “S & M” from Rihanna). Eight of the songs are from the ladies. Rihanna has three entries, Jessie J and Adele have two each and Katy Perry has one. LMFAO and Bruno Mars make up the ten. “Pumped Up Kicks” from Foster The People was top in the USA.

Here is the full UK list and enjoy the top three below;

1. Adele – Rolling In The Deep

2. Bruno Mars – Grenade

3. Rihanna – S&M

4. Jessie J and B.o.B. – Price Tag

5. Jessie J – Do It Like A Dude (Explicit version)

6. LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem

7. Adele – Make You Feel My Love

8. Rihanna and Drake – What’s My Name?

9. Rihanna – Only Girl In The World

10. Katy Perry – Firework

Rihanna rocks a kind of ASBO Bling look

It would appear that UK chart history was made today by Rihanna. She became the first female artist to have a number one single five years in a row. She has almost matched the feat of Elvis Presley who managed a number one in each year from 1957 to 1963, some six years in total. Starting with “All Shook Up” and ending with “Devil In Disguise“. Inevitably the current record is held by the Beatles who had a number one in each year from 1963 to 1969, a 7 year run. Staring with “From Me To You” and ending with “The Ballad Of John And Yoko” I reckon Rihanna has a good chance of overturning both of those records. read about it on the NME site by clicking here.

Rihanna hoovers up yet more chart records

Rihanna’s UK number one singles since 2007 have been;

2007 “Umbrella”

2008 “Take A Bow”

2009 “Run This Town

2010 “Only Girl (In The World)”

2011 “What’s My Name” featuring Drake

Rihanna was born nearly 20 years after the last of the Beatles run and she is still only 22. She will be 23 in February. She originates from Barbados and plays a big part in the support of the marketing of her homeland. She is now an honorary cultural ambassador. She is also a great philanthropist, setting up her Believe Foundation in 2006. It is a charity which supports terminally ill children.

Is it Grace Jones? Is it Max Wall? No it's Rihanna!
