It was reported today that Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi is suffering from lymphoma a form of cancer. It is in its early stages and he is undergoing treatment in London. Ozzy Osbourne and the rest of the band will join him in London from LA to continue recording their new album with producer Rick Rubin. The album is scheduled for release late this year, it will be the original line ups first for 33 years.

The band have asked all fans to send positive vibes to the guitarist. In their statement they said ‘The Iron Man of Rock and Roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full recovery’ There is no word yet from the band as to whether this will affect their planned appearance at Download this summer and later tour. In my opinion the most important thing is for Tony to take all the time he needs to beat this horrible disease. Good luck Mr Iommi and take all the positive vibes that you need from me.

I have been a big fan of comic books and superheroes for many, many years and obviously people like the Fantastic Four, Spiderman, Iron Man, the X Men and many others are real aren’t they? OK you might be laughing now but click here and you will see that I could be right!

Phoenix Jones is a Seattle superhero crime fighter. He is the leader of the Rain City Superhero Movement. He recently appeared in court charged with attacking some people outside a nightclub using pepper spray. Somehow I can’t imagine that Batman kept pepper spray in his utility belt. The judge made him unmask and reveal his secret identity as Benjamin Fodor. I am not sure whether he was bitten by a radioactive spider, was exposed to gamma radiation, is a mutant or is indeed slightly mad. But he certainly seems to be for real. He is married to another superhero/ vigilante known as Purple Reign, she sounds like some kind of Prince protegé to me! I wonder if they drive around in the Phoenixmobile or the Jonesmobile?

Phoenix appears to be getting a bit of a caning from a woman here 🙂

Obviously we need a few hero related songs to accompany this post don’t we?

Iron Man 2 May 3, 2010

He's behind you!

We went out to catch the latest Marvel movie today; Iron Man 2. I felt it was a pretty good movie but perhaps not quite as good as the first instalment, although Robert Downey Jr plays the Tony Stark/ Iron Man role supremely well. Samuel L Jackson is also brilliant as Nick Fury. 

The action scenes are excellent and there is a great teaser at the end that points to a forthcoming Avengers movie. So at last the whole Marvel Universe is hitting the screens! I was disappointed that I didn’t see the usual cameo from Stan Lee, but maybe I missed it. 

Iron Man seems to be doing a number two!

The soundtrack is unusually not a mixed compilation, but more like a best of AC/DC, although there are a couple of other noticable songs used during the film; “Magnificent Seven” from the Clash and “Pick Up The Pieces” from the Average White Band. The end credits are soundtracked by one of my favourite AC/ DC songs, “Highway To Hell” 

If you like Marvel movies you will love this, I will definitely get the DVD when it comes out too. Now roll on the next Fantastic Four instalment, the Thor movie and then the Avengers! 

None of the other kids wanted to get on the slide while Tony Stark was on it
