The Mayhem Charts – February 2024 March 4, 2024

Here is the Mayhem chart for February 2024. Regular readers know that the chart is based on my Spotify listening habits over the last month. The chart remains contemporary-ish, rather than just an oldies chart However, the top three “Legacy” artists are Was (Not Was), Bob Marley and the Wailers, and Stackridge. Surprisingly, David Bowie is not in the top 3 for the third month in a row. There is a top ten artists chart and a top 5 songs chart. There is the usual eclectic mix of artists, including two that were in the top ten last month (Delilah Bon and Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes). For the first time, none of the top five songs is by an artist which features in the top ten artist chart. However, after reaching number three with “Back In Time” last month Georgia Reed hits the top spot for February with her current single “Honey”. Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes are number 1 in the artist chart and as previously mentioned Georgia Reed is top of the song chart. So without further ado here are those charts in full! Click on the header of the song chart for the playlist on Spotify.

“Honey” – Georgia Reed February 15, 2024

We reviewed “Back In Time“, an earlier song from Georgia Reed last month and now her new tune, “Honey” is with us. This a gorgeous slab of haunting electro-pop that talks of the scepticism Georgia faced when relocating to the UK from her native Australia. It has an underlying dark and gothic vibe, but like with “Back In Time” the music holds some hopeful and positive tones. Ultimately it is about having faith and confidence in what you do and not letting those who doubt you get in your way. At times I can detect the softer side of Steve Strange’s Visage and the darker side of Erasure. Georgia has a distinct vocal style that is hard to compare with anyone else and that is why her songs have such emotion and atmosphere. This is the third single released that is building towards an EP due out on 13th March. I am looking forward to the EP and with every song I have become a bigger fan of Georgia Reed!

“Back In Time” – Georgia Reed January 21, 2024

After a five-year hiatus, Georgia Reed has not released new music until late last year. The Australian singer-songwriter has relocated to the UK and is returning to her music in a huge way. Her single, “Haunted” issued last November was the first of four songs lined up for release in the coming months. Following hot on the heels of the haunting and dancey “Haunted” comes the new track “Back In Time”. It has an ethereal hymn-like feel with its heavenly, echoey, counterpoint backing vocals. Meanwhile, Georgia’s voice is stunning in this dark ballad which contains a hopeful vibe. There is a yearning emotion in the vocal and it is hard not to be moved by her voice. There are some incredible lyrics on show, I particularly love the line “I think god gives me lemons just to see what I create”. Take a listen to Georgia Reed, I love her stuff and I think that you will too.
