Here is the Mayhem chart for July 2025, a little late (just like last month) I know, but better late than never right? Regular readers know the chart is based on my streaming listening habits. These are gathered over the last month by obscurify.com. My taste in music dropped one point to 98% more obscure than the rest of the UK! The chart remains contemporary-ish (but if a classic artist releases something new they might feature in the chart). However, last month’s top three “Legacy” artists were David Bowie, Carole King and Bob Marley. Obscurify also suggests the most obscure artists I have listened to for March and they are Liz Davinci, Dead Rat Society and The Dead Zoo. Bowie, Dead Rat Society, Liz Davinci and David Bowie have retained their obscure and legacy positions from last month.
Panic Shack sit atop the artist chart for July 2025. party Nails was the only act that remained in the artist chart from last month, falling from number 1 to number 10. Three artists appear in the artist chart and the song chart: Scene Queen, Panic Shack and the Dead Zoo. Scene Queen smashes her way to the top of the song chart with her wonderful single and future disco classic “L-Shaped Couch” 70% of the artist chart is female or female fronted and the song chart is not far behind! ALT BLK ERA and Delilah Bon make a welcome return to the artist chart. So without further ado here are those charts in full! Click on the Spotify link below to listen to the famous (or infamous) five! Seventeen minutes of fabulous music!

“L‑Shaped Couch” is the fabulous new glitter ball of a single from the phenomenon that is Scene Queen. It is a stunning, pop based move away from her signature bimbocore sound. It is a delightful divergence into a sparkling disco sound. This song would not be out of place on a classic disco playlist, but it still retains the essence of who Scene Queen is. In addition to the funky synth sounds there is also some chunky guitar riffage. Her vocal is full on pop and would give Kylie a run for her money. There’s a thought, how about a Kylie and Scene Queen collaboration? In the meantime put on your best disco trousers and glitter flecked tank top and get down to some discocore from Scene Queen.

Hannah Collins a.k.a. SCENE QUEEN takes Bimbocore to a whole new level on her debut album, ‘Hot Singles In Your Area’, which hits the pink streets on 28th June via Hopeless Records. It is stacked full of good stuff including some collaborations with WARGASM, The Ready Set, and 6arelyhuman. Whatever excites you, whatever your kink is there is something on this record for you. SCENE QUEEN says this about the album “I wrote an album about growing up in the early 2000s but not exploring my sexuality until my 20s with all the messy and chaotic situations you find yourself in when you’re trying to find yourself and your own power.” She is at the vanguard of feminism and could probably bring down the patriarchy on her own given the power in her metal/ emo/ punk/ pop anthems. To look at her you might think Barbie, and yes the look is there, but the strength is so much more like G.I. Jane.
The album kicks off with “BDSM” (I told you there was something for every kink, right?) This is a full-on metal assault with nasty, dark pop vibes. This could be the Bimbocore national anthem. Her voice is so strong on this, what a way to open. The 2023 single “18+” tackles head-on the prevalence of so many bands being misogynistic and apparently happy to use underage girls. The chorus is like Gwen Stefani on steroids with a hook that Babymetal would kill for. Misogynists and predators are going to be scared shitless when they hear “Whips & Chains”, especially when they hear the lyric “gonna nail his dick to the wall of shame” It is a glorious metal pop song, which sadly won’t be heard on mainstream radio. Another totally anthemic single from last year plays next on this record, “Pink Push-Up Bra” This tune takes metal to a mountainous new level that many of SCENE QUEEN’s male peers are probably afraid to go to. These riffs are as hard as fucking hell! She showcases her signature style when she lays into circle jerkers everywhere with “Mutual Masturbation”. This chorus was hanging around in my head for days after I listened to it. WARGASM adds something to “Girls Gone Wild” but it is still full-on energetic femme fatale fury from the high priestess of Bimbocore. The guitar solo screams hard and slaps you in the face.
“POV” is another collaboration, this time with the Ready Set. It is first-class rap metal with riffs ripped straight from the early 70s glam rock peak. The title track “Hot Singles In Your Area” starts out like a cutesy country ballad, and then it rips out the beating heart of Nashville’s finest as its sonic attack throws you from one side of your padded cell to the other. Speaking of country, SCENE QUEEN goes metallic dosey doe on “MILF”. Maybe there will be a Bimbocore country album in the future, I reckon it would outclass Beyonce’s leisurely stroll in Ole Opry territory. I would love to hear Madonna tackle a SCENE QUEEN song, perhaps “Amateur” would be a good place to start. “Stuck” featuring 6arelyhuman was a single earlier this year and it encompasses everything that a song needs to top every chart in the world. Sadly this world is full of shit so that ain’t gonna happen. But an electro-dance remix of this track would be awesome. SCENE QUEEN is an ambassador for sexual freedom and that is perhaps never more clear than on “Finger” a song that extols the virtues of self-pleasure. If you like dark, dirty, sex-fuelled, dance vibes you will fucking love “PEG”. The guitar shredding on “Oral Fixation” is a DEFCON 1 event. This has the influence of PEACHES all over it. Appropriately the album closes with a song called “Climax” it is a Bimbocore power ballad that gives you just enough time to recover from the aural blitzkrieg of the album, before spinning it again! SCENE QUEEN has metaphorical balls of steel and is not afraid to question and challenge, misogynists, haters, and genre purists. She stands up and fights angrily and passionately for LGBTQ+ people and anyone unfortunate enough to have fallen through the cracks in this often vile world. Even if you don’t know it yet, you need SCENE QUEEN in your life and you need her NOW!

Here is the Mayhem chart for March 2024. Regular readers know that the chart is based on my Spotify listening habits over the last month. The chart remains contemporary-ish, rather than just an oldies chart However, the top three “Legacy” artists are Kate Bush, David Bowie, and Steve Harley/ Cockney Rebel. David Bowie returns to the chart after missing out for three months. Obscurify also suggests the most obscure artists I have listened to and for March those are Liz Davinci, The Apocalypse Disco and The Chinaskis. There is a top ten artists chart and a top 5 songs chart. There is the usual eclectic mix of artists, including four that were in the top ten last month (Crawlers, Bambi Thug, Delilah Bon, and Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes). Four of the artists in the artist’s chart also appear in the song’s chart. Delilah Bon has been in the artist charts for four consecutive months and now she tops the song chart with the mighty “Maverick”. Drunk Mums crash straight to the top of the artist chart! Well, here we are at the end of our journey through Mayhem’s 12 Days Of Christmas for 2023. Regular readers will know that this year I have used the series to showcase artists featured in Spotify’s Misfits 2.0 playlist. Some of them I discovered via Misfits 2.0, others I was already a huge fan of. Today’s post features the obscenely talented Delilah Bon, probably my favourite living artist. Since “Devil” in July 2020 she has released some stunning songs plus a great EP, ‘Ready To Kill’ and a self-titled debut album that blew away the competition in 2021. I believe that we might see her sophomore album in 2024, I certainly hope so.
Delilah Bon is the alter ego of Lauren Tate of Hands Off Gretel. In her approach to life, her attitude, and especially her music she stands up for women and girls and the whole LGBTQ+ community and frankly she is an inspirational icon for anyone who dares to be different. She has had a great year with a trio of classic singles, “I Wish A Bitch Would”, “Brat” and the magnificent “Witch”. She enlisted the help of ALT BLK ERA on the latter, another act that featured in this year’s 12 Days of Christmas posts. In addition, I have also showcased WARGASM, Royal and the Serpent, Poppy, Girli, tiLLie, 100 gecs, Casseyette, FKA Rayne, Scene Queen, and Jazmin Bean. Delilah Bon has played some excellent support slots this year for Scene Queen and Shaka Ponk. Earlier this year she performed “War On Women” on French TV’s biggest music programme Taratata. In her music she embraces hip-hop, punk, rap, and metal. If you do not have Delilah Bon in your life yet, why the hell not?

Day 10 of Mayhem’s 12 Days of Christmas features New York-born Hannah Collins who many will know as the originator and Empress of Bimbocore, Scene Queen. Yes, Scene Queen has invented her own genre which is a kind of nu-metal, pop-driven, punky sound that allows her to sing her incredibly well thought and feminist lyrics over some great tunes. I didn’t find Scene Queen via Spotify’s Misfits 2.0, although they featured on that playlist a lot. I was lucky enough to see Scene Queen live at the Leeds Festival back in 2022. I think she will be back at the Bramham Park site next year and I am already looking forward to that. She will also be performing at Download 2024.
Scene Queen has released a banging barrage of magnificent singles, particularly “Pink Bubblegum”, “Pink G-String” and three from her album ‘Hot Singles In Your Area’ which is scheduled for release next year. Those three are “18+”, “Pink Push-Up Bra” and the new single “MILF”, all of these suggest that the album might already be a contender for album of the year 2024. Another wonderful plus point is Scene Queen‘s excellent taste in music, back in October she invited Delilah Bon to support her on her UK tour. She has also hooked up with Bellesa Sex Toys, and offered some great deals on vibes! If Scene Queen isn’t in your life yet, she should be! Check her out!

The Mayhem Monthly charts return for the fourth month in a row (I probably need to stop opening with that line soon, right?) Regular readers know the chart is based on my Spotify listening habits over the last month. The chart is still contemporary-ish, or it would be just an oldies chart The top three “Legacy” artists are David Bowie (no surprise there!), Mott The Hoople, and Donny Hathaway. There is a top ten artists chart and a top 5 songs chart. There is the usual eclectic mix of artists including three that were in the top ten last month (ALT BLK ERA, Delilah Bon, and Scene Queen). In fact, this is the fourth month in a row that ALT BLK ERA have featured in the artist top ten. Apart from UGLY CLUB at number five, the top five songs are all by artists that feature in the top ten artist chart. Just like Delilah Bon last month tiLLie does the double, she is at the top of both charts! So without further ado here are those charts!
