“I know that we are young and I know you may love me” October 28, 2010

This is a post for those regular readers that prefer looking at pictures! 🙂

Before she was famous the one time Ms Germanotta appeared in a public service film about sexual harassment. Clearly in those days she had no hype nor outrageous dress sense and indeed no “Paparazzi” either!

And here she is now in the Alejandro video

She is not the only star that has an old film in their closet. Check out this one from David Bowie, where as David Jones he represents the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Long-haired Men in an interview with Cliff Michelmore.

To accompany that here is a little compilation of Bowie’s hairstyles from the 60s through to 1990.

So then these two videos got me thinking that I ought to add a few pictures of music stars as young people or kids. Can you guess who these ones are? What do you think of them?

Pete Doherty before he even knew what drugs were!

Elvis, not naturally black-haired was he?

Jay Z - the graduate

Bjork then and now - some haircut huh?

“Why does my heart go on beating, why do these eyes of mine cry” October 11, 2010

Have any of you been following the news in the Paddlesworth Press? It’s an excellent story about the impending end of the world which utilises the internet really well, it reaches across Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and many other areas. It is so well put together that I am sure there are plenty of people out there that actually believe it! But hey, maybe it is true………..hmmmmmmmm! There is indeed a real Paddlesworth in the UK

They even have a number of fictitious (?) bands in Paddlesworth too, here are a couple, some even have some real music, check them out below;

Northrop & The Captain

Why?

DJ Mungo

To finish here are a couple of end of the world songs;

Reading Festival 2010 – Picture Special! September 1, 2010

OK dear readers (especially if you just like looking at the pictures) what follows is a selection of pictures taken by myself and Mr H at this years festival. All were taken using nothing but Nokia mobile phones. Sadly (or perhaps happily) there are no pictures of Guns N Roses, largely because our batteries ran out while waiting an hour for them to appear. At a later stage we may put a few videos on YouTube too (watch this blog for news of that!) So in no particular order here they come.

Amy's Ghost a terrific local band

The Brilliant Things - a brilliant band

Lostprophets - MEGA LOLZ

Gaslight Anthem

Free Energy - a superb rock band from Philly

Villagers - quite a small village I assume 🙂

Villagers - yes definitely a small village!

A view of the crowd from the crowd

I'm going on Dragons Den for an investment in my floating tent invention!

I bet those wellies weren't so clean on the way home

All that mud and not a hippo in sight

mud, mud, glorious mud

What to wear and what not to wear

Lucie and her friend and Nick

Suzy, Nick, me and half of Jake (can we get a Less Than Jake reference in there somewhere?)

Suzy, Nick, half of me and Jake

OK firstly this post is a little more serious than my usual fayre, however it is probably just as rambling as the regular stuff! So feel free to stop reading now if you wish

Many of you regular readers will know that I am very difficult to offend, in fact I don’t recall ever being offended by anything. I can see why some people do take offence at things though. Earlier this week YouTube banned MIA’s video for her new single “Born Free” Click here to see the story on the BBC. It is quite graphic on both the sex front and the violence front. However is the real issue that it deals with race issues in a rather novel and hard-hitting way? The army/ police in the video are rounding up red-haired people and killing them in the same way that many other ethnic minorities have been rounded up and killed in the past. Are people offended because they accept people with a different hair colour and not people with different skin colour?

Stills from the Born free video

I wonder what the scummy British National Party think of this? In BNP speak I would be an indigenous British person because my skin is white, whether I have red hair is irrelevant to them (incidentally I have no hair, but my son is a red head) I find this video quite thought-provoking, in particular how it focusses the mind on our attitude to race issues. I personally don’t take offence at the film, but I do take offence at scummy political parties like the BNP

People of the UK in next weeks election use your vote and use it wisely. A no-show from you could enable the BNP to gain ground, that is surely unacceptable. I respect MIA’s right to freedom of speech and expression as I respect my own. Indeed I also respect the right of all political parties to make their point. But to invoke my own freedom I believe that the BNP are inherently evil and should not benefit in the polls by people who can’t be bothered to cast their vote. If you choose to actually vote BNP then I totally believe you are wrong, but I know that it is your right. But I implore the rest of you to make sure you cast your vote; Labour, Tory, Lib Dem, Green, Monster Raving Looney or anyone else but please let’s ensure that the BNP lose their deposits

OK rant over, and I look forward to your comments, although clearly I recognise that I may have opened the floodgates to the crazies!

Click here to see MIA’s video, but trust me it does contain sexual scenes and scenes of violence
