The 12 Days Of Christmas 2021 – Songs Of Hope – Day 8 December 19, 2021

This year’s 12 Days of Christmas series showcases a collection of songs about hope which by now I’m sure you’re aware of. The first seven posts have given you songs from Bill Withers, The Beatles, Johnny Nash, Bob Marley, ELO, Sam Cooke, and Monty Python. At the end of the twelve days, there will be a playlist of all twelve tunes and maybe even some of your choices added to that list. It is clear that the world is very dark for so many people right now and I worry that this will not get better quickly, so I really hope that these songs light up your darkness. Today’s song is perhaps one of my favourite songs ever, “Move On Up” by the late, great Curtis Mayfield. Once again stay strong good people, we will get through all the shit that life throws at us and if you are feeling particularly low talk to someone. I am happy to be here for you if you need me!

I am sure you will know by now that this year’s 12 Days of Christmas series showcases a collection of songs about hope. So far there have been songs from Bill Withers, The Beatles, Johnny Nash, Bob Marley, ELO, and Sam Cooke. At the end of the twelve days, there will be a playlist of all twelve tunes and maybe even some of your choices added to that list. The world is a particularly horrible place for so many people right now and I fear that things may not improve quickly, so I really hope that these songs at least brighten the darkness a little. Today’s song is the Monty Python classic from ‘The Life Of Brian’ film, “Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life”. This song always makes me smile, which songs do that for you? Once again stay strong good people, we will get through all the shit that life throws at us and if you are feeling particularly low talk to someone. I am happy to be here for you if you need me!

The 12 Days Of Christmas 2021 – Songs Of Hope – Day 6 December 17, 2021

Most of you will know by now that this year’s 12 Days of Christmas series showcases a collection of songs that communicate hope. So far there have been songs from Bill Withers, The Beatles, Johnny Nash, Bob Marley, and ELO. At the end of the twelve days, there will be a playlist of all twelve tunes and maybe even some of your choices added to that list. These past couple of years have been awful for many and I fear that things may get worse before they get better, so I hope that these songs make you even slightly happier. Today it is the turn of the late, great Sam Cooke with “A Change Is Gonna Come”. The song was apparently inspired by a number of events in Sam’s life, particularly when he and his entourage were turned away from a whites-only motel in Louisiana. He has said that he felt compelled to write a song that spoke to his struggle and of those around him, and that pertained to the Civil Rights Movement and African Americans. This song always inspires me, what songs do that for you? Once again stay strong people, and if you are feeling particularly low talk to someone. I am happy to be here for you if you need me!

A Christmas Message From Doozer McDooze

Doozer has been described as an underground festival hero (UK Festival Guides), vibrant, energetic and brash (Hastings Independent Press) and, direct, open, and in your face (RNR Magazine) He was also once described as “that talented bard of punky ballads and singer of modern sonnets” by With Just A Hint Of Mayhem, oh that one was me! Anyway that most wonderful human being Doozer McDooze has provided a Yuletide message to all the readers of With Just A Hint Of Mayhem and for me that is an honour and a pleasure. If you have read the posts for the first four days of this series you will know that this year’s 12 Days of Christmas showcases a collection of songs that communicate hope. So far there have been songs from Bill Withers, The Beatles, Johnny Nash, and Bob Marley. At the end of the twelve days, there will be a playlist of all twelve tunes and maybe even some of your choices. These Covid times have been devastating for many and I fear that things may get worse before they get better, I hope in a small way that these song choices brighten your world even just a little. Today it is the turn of the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) with “Mr. Blue Sky”. This is a tune that always makes me smile, does it do that for you? If you have read the posts for the first three days you will know that this years 12 Days of Christmas showcases a collection of songs that communicate hope. This kicked off with the Bill Withers classic, “Lean On Me”, followed with “Here Comes The Sun” by the Beatles and yesterday Johnny Nash with “I Can See Clearly Now”. At the end of the twelve days I will compile all the songs into a playlist and might even add some of your choices that didn’t make it to my list. We have all been through some very dark times in the past couple of years, some far more than others. I hope todays song helps bring a little light to your darkness, it is Bob Marley with “Three Little Birds” Once again let me say, stay strong people and if you are feeling particularly low talk to someone. Check out their new single below, these lads come across like a two-man Led Zeppelin with interstellar rocket engines! Drummer Bron and guitarist and singer Ellis formed the Hazy Janes during lockdown and are clear proof that some good things did happen during the darkest of Covid days! The world needs bands like this.

If you have read the posts for day 1 and day 2 you will know that this years 12 Days of Christmas showcases a collection of songs that communicate hope. This kicked off with the Bill Withers classic, “Lean On Me” and yesterday followed with “Here Comes The Sun” by the Beatles. We have all been through some very dark times in the past couple of years, some far more than others. But I hope and believe that there is a light at the end of all this. That is why I have chosen todays song. It is by a man who is probably my favourite vocalist of all time, Johnny Nash. The song is “I Can See Clearly Now”. So many of us have been through the darkest of times this past couple of years and if any of this music can bring you even a sliver of light and hope, then music is doing its job. Where does the time go? It is already time again for my series of the twelve days of Christmas. This year I want to share with you a collection of songs that communicate hope. I think this is incredibly important after all the things that have gone wrong in the world and events that have left many people feeling hopeless. Can music change the world? Maybe not, but it sure as hell can help many of us get through dark times. I am kicking off with a truly wonderful tune from the late, great Bill Withers. “Lean On Me”.
